Last year Koen Verbist (Cosanta) and André Winkes (Arbo Unie) visited Vietnam as part of a project aiming to improve working conditions within the clothing and shoe-manufacturing industry. The project is a collaboration between Fair Wear Foundation (FWF) and subsidised by the Dutch Occupational Hygiene Association. Apart from Koen and André, Hester Dekker is participating in this project. Last year first contacts were made with different organisations in Vietnam.
In the meantime the project has continued. We have had regular contact with FWF. Checklists and other documents used for local audits have been reviewed and complemented with specific elements on exposure and control measures for chemical substances. On 1 February we attended an FWF seminar for new members where we presented our findings during the factory visits in Vietnam and discussed this with the European clothing labels. We hope to return to Vietnam by the end of March to organise a training course on exposure and control of chemical substances. We also want to visit some factories again.
We will keep you informed via our website or the (Dutch) ‘Arbeidshygiene in Vietnam’ blog.
